Easy DIY Wedding Flower Dog Collar or Leash
1.) Gather your supplies
You will need:
• An artificial flower: The size you choose will depend on the desired look and your pup’s size. I found the ones I used in this post at A.C. Moore — you check your local craft store, but there are also gorgeous options online like these artificial peonies.
• Ribbon: I recommend at least two kinds in complementary designs. Your flower attachment will look more impressive with wider ribbon, so aim for at least 1″ wide. Your dollar store might have some great options — mine certainly did!
• Wire: I used floral wire because I had it around the house. You could use any wire or similarly “bendy yet stiff” material.
• A glue gun: I’m a pro at burning my fingers, so I stick to my trusty low-heat glue gun. Don’t forget the glue sticks to use in the gun!
• Scissors: For cutting the ribbon.
That’s it!
2.) Separate the flower and leaves from the stem
We’ll be gluing the leaves directly to the flower to eliminate bulk, so you will need to remove both from the stem. Usually, they will just pop off.
3.) Glue two wires to the base of the flower
We’re pretty much creating a wire sandwich, with the flower and leaves as the “bread.” Squirt a generous amount of glue onto the flower base and attach the wire, making sure it is fully encased by glue on all sides. Let the glue harden.
4.) Glue the leaves on top of the wires
Add another generous glue layer on top of the first hardened glue layer, and attach the leaves.
5.) Cut ribbon
Cut about two and a half feet of each ribbon you will be using.
6.) Tie a bow
Tie these two ribbons into a bow and trim the ends so that they are even.
7. ) Glue the bow to the flower
Using a lot of glue, affix the bow to the back of the flower. Wait for the glue to harden.
8.) Finish the wire edges
Twist the edges of the wires into a neat, safe loop and use a bead of glue to coat the end. Wait for the glue to harden. This will ensure that your pup won’t be poked!
9.) Wrap around collar or leash
Wrap the wire around the collar or leash of your choice.
10.) Ta-da!
There is it: an accessory that is easy, removable, and affordable. Just make sure the wire isn’t poking your dog or the ribbon or flower aren’t annoying, and you’re good to go!
